...we are each responsible for creating the world we wish to live in. I also believe that anyone who teaches and leads must do so by example.
Bringing my own ideas through the very same challenging (sometimes outright daunting) processes that I ask my students, clients, and workshop participants to go through is how I make sure I am walking my talk.
Social change has never been easier. One person can make a difference. It takes creativity and, yes, good old fashioned guts. But it can be done, and it is being done, by so many of us. Below are a few of my contributions...
STOP THE BEAUTY MADNESS
There comes a time when you have simply had enough. Enough of the impossible standards and "ideal" image. Most of all, enough of the feeling of not enough when it comes to your own beauty. To bring awareness (and poke the bear), I created a campaign that went viral, gaining worldwide coverage with press in 30+ countries.
YOUR HOLIDAY MOM FOR LGBTQ YOUTH
It was a simple concept... 40 MOMS + 40 MESSAGES = A BEAUTIFUL LGBTQ HOLIDAY SEASON. This website supports our LGBTQ youth at the critical holiday times. It found more than 35,000 audio and video views in the first 40 days. As the beautiful, often poignant comments show that many lives have changed—some have even been saved.
WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NEXT
I wanted to explore women's values and share them with the world, so we traveled the US to create music videos together. With more than 50 local leaders, we formed friendships and business alliances that continue on to this day. Our first video had more than 10,000 views in 10 days. Women felt heard and empowered to speak up all the more.
